Trip to Kuantan | Day 1 | Sungai Lembing

This was first primary school holiday season for Brayden. It was a week-long and we had made a short quick trip to Kuantan. Father-In-Law (Yeh Yeh) wanted to visit his younger brother (Tong Suk). Our last trip there was 10 years ago, when we wanted to send out our wedding invitation card to the family.

It was a long ride there, started our journey from Singapore at about 9am and reached there at 6pm.

We had popular Ah Koong Yong Tau Foo in JB as our first stop. During the long car ride, Brayden and Bevlynn was playing shooting cars, and faking throwing each other outside the window. It was such fun.

Once there, we gathered for a dinner with all the family; Tong Suk, Ah Sam, (Uncle-In-Law & Wife) Ah Man, Ah Wai (cousins), Yenni (Ah Wai's wife), and other uncles and aunties. It was at a Kemaman Seafood Village restaurant. It served very good char siew, fish and other seafood.

We stayed at Ah Wai's bungalow. It was a very nicely renovated house with such hospitality. We even get to use his car for the whole week to go around.

Day 1 - Sunday 10.03.2024, we made a visit to Bray and Bev's great grandmother's grave site at the Christian cemetary. It was near a beach, filled with little crabs. We caught a few.

We took a trip to Sungai Lembing with Ah Wai, Tung Sok, Uncle Fatt and Brother-In-Law. I had a lots of flashbacks to some good memories we had when my Mother-In-Law (Mah Mah) was still with us. That was our first trip and we went there to the pasar pagi, I remembered Mah Mah was always with her small towel, wiping down to cool herself and she'd ordered some good food for us. I'd dreamed of her sometimes at this very place over and over again.

The entrance to Sungai Lembing Kampung Melayu still looked very much the same. Uniquely designed old kampung houses adorned both sides of the small road. It is like a warm welcome back and such a place to reminisce the good old times. 10 years has gone and past. All the outside world had changed but not this town. The town is with lesser people now. The crowd has gone, it is no longer an attraction for tourists.

We went to visit Ah Sam's sister's house - one of the blue wooden kampung houses beside the once famous river (known for tin mining), simple yet untouched by heavy technology and fast paced lifestyle. We walked barely a minute from the home and we 'd reached the river bank. It is having very low water level and we could walk easily in the clean waters. The sky was cloudless blue and hot, under the trees it was cooling. There is a hanging bridge right in front of the house and there were motorcycles riding across this unbalanced planks of wood. We could all imagine the cooling morning dew and night wind at this kampung near the mountain, it would have been nice to leave the rat race to live once a while in this simple town to destress.

We had tea break at famous Muar-E and dinner at the famous Zuk Satay. Then we went to Teluk Cempedak to have a short stroll after dinner at the beach with the kids. The night spectacle at the night was amazing, very much like Penang's Esplanade but slightly more happening. There were people in cartoon costumes, fire show, night kites, and high tide and wave (and I mean really high wave that can splash some sprinkles onto your face as the wind blow). I was fairly afraid the wave would come like the tsunami and wash us all away - but of course, that is far from reality.
