Business Trip to Thailand | Uncertainty & Burnout

Brayden 7Y5M3D

On Sunday, I arrived in Bangkok. My colleagues were there too and we headed for some shopping, good food and massage. I bought a book on feelings from Kinokuniya Paragon. I just realised that the overwhelmed feelings at work were due to change, putting more tasks in a day's work (to improve change) and exhaustion at the end of the day. This is a feeling from "Uncertainty" and "Burnout". I had learnt from the book that uncertainty should have been separated into what can be changed within my control and what can't be changed beyond my control. I had my thoughts out, I realised I had been trying to change things which are not within my control and with that, I had been frustrated because things were not going accordingly. I felt more relieved because the things I had done a lot in the past and I should not pushed it aside just because of the things not going my way these days. I would learn to celebrate more of what had been done.

This is the first trip which we were staying in almost different hotels everyday.
Day 1 Mecure Hotel Bangkok
Day 2 Holiday Inn Rayong
Day 3 Holiday Inn Rayong, we had karaoke for dinner (I had karaoke in Malaysia, Singapore, S.Korea and Thailand - this one I would say is probably the best one although most Thai songs I don't understand)
Day 4 Sriracha Hotel Chonburri
Day 5 Hilton Grande Bangkok

All hotels were nice, wonderful decor and great spread of breakfast.

The massage in Healthland was amazing. First time we headed there, it was raining. Two of the colleagues had to run under the rain. The good aroma body massage compensated for the tiring run out of the rain. On the second time for foot massage, I would have enjoyed it if it weren't for the person next to me snoring and having a smell, invading my privacy.

We had a short walk to Soi Cowboy and decided to head back to Hotel for a nice chat.

I had long talks with colleagues and got to know them even more...
I missed my little munchkins. Time to go home...

Water Blast | A Break in JB

The Saturday started as usual with our morning swim in the Bukit Batok Swimming Pool. Brayden has just ended two sessions of swimming lessons from 8.15am - 9.45am. After that, the children played in the children's pool with a playground in the center. When we were going into the shower at the last cubicle, there was a small leak of water spraying out from the tap. Then after 2-3 rounds of tapping, the whole shower pipe from the tap to the head came off. Loads of water was gushing and gushing out and sprayed with very high pressure onto the door. It was loud and water was starting to flood the floor around the toilet. The children were scared and run to the corner of the cubicle. Naked and crying for help.... but couldn't get out as the door was held shut by the high water force. I had to forcibly push the door open to let the children out. Bev was scared. The toilet is now empty, all other parents and children had rushed out from the toilet.

Bev and Bray still had soap on them, so we had to quickly run to another cubicle and get cleaned. After several minutes, the floor was flooded even more. It was kind of fun walking around with water on the floor. If not for little Bev crying, I would have gotten the children to skip around in the water...

The swimming pool operator came to save the day. They had the water stopped.

It was a hectic week for me at work. There were mountains of unfinished work and I had to go to Thailand the next week to attend and support the events. It was very overwhelming, I decided to take a break in JB for a day. I went for massages, good food in Oriental coffee, some shopping. Coming back to work, I felt more energized. But I was wondering; it is always the same cycle of working and break.

Pokemon Go Fest | Lost another Tooth | Mom's Spiritual Encounter in Reservoir

I was returning from JB. Mom, Max and Gene were arriving to Singapore the same night. They were here to play the Pokemon Go Global Fest.

On Sat and Sun, they were catching the Necrozma - legendary pokemon the whole day. At times, they will end up with rare shining pokemon or one with special background. Brayden was very pro. Actually, it matched his Character Day theme; the one he wore to school that Monday. If he had dressed up today as the pokemon trainer, he would play the role very well. He knew what to do, where to go, how to catch, etc...

Brayden came running to me. "Mommy, I felt something hard when I brushed my teeth, Look it is my tooth". He did not feel any pain, he just brushed hard enough and the tooth feel off. Good boy~

We met RR and JH at Marche. Lina and YT's children were ill so they could not come. It was RR birthday but we could not really celebrate. She just lost a relative in the family. But still it was a good meet-up for the children.

Mom was recalling the spiritual encounter she had more than 10 year ago. It was when we first moved to the rented house in Reservoir Garden.

The house was empty for more than 6 months before we moved in.

She felt the dark presence, knocked on doors, horse-riding sound across the hall. She heard voices calling out Max and her name (with grandma's voice). Those voices were very faint but unearthly. She wanted to look for help from a medium in a temple to remove these hauntings; a friend made a recommendation. However, she had searched for the place for about a month but she could not find it. Eventually, she found the hidden temple. The medium told her the house was indeed haunted and asked her to get a Buddha to be placed at home for daily praying.

Even so, there were many obstacles around getting the right altar and Buddha statue. She felt my Dad was not very happy with the whole process. At times, he'd throw tantrums at her for no reasons. The first altar was delivered but cracked, so she had to wait another month. My Dad was screaming out to the neighbourhood at night from our gate. She saw 4 dark shadows standing outside of our house, she yelled at them to stay away. At one time, we could smell very thick gross dead corpse stench lingering around our home. She was afraid but she kept to herself - showing a brave front.

Actually Dad was going through a tough time during then. We had to sell and let go our home in Bukit Dumbar because Dad was in a tough financial difficulty - Nobody understood and helped him through it all. Now that we are grown and know how tough it is to earn for family, I realised the heavy burden of being responsible as the breadwinner. Traditionally, families like ours do not really share all our troubles because we do not want them to be worried. Somehow without these communication, it hurt the family more than it helped. Back then, I used to think Dad had very bad temper and he'd lashed out on his family. So now looking back, I can understand the emotional roller-coaster faced by my Dad. I can understand but that does not mean it was the best approach, there could have been better days.

My Mom in her ways, felt that she had done much more to bring the family together. She indeed tried her best. At one time, Bro Gene was having depression probably and he'd thought of harming himself. But my Mom tried convincing him to leave this thoughts behind. I would not have been able to be as strong as her. If I was in her shoes, I would probably break down and be lost......

She had gone through a lot in her life; frankly nobody could provide her guidance; not even her Mom (my Grandma - who passed on). So she had to step-up the ways she knows best; although it may not always be right. Her life is no short of stories similar or worse than the dramas.

When we spoke of stories from back in those days, it will still pull some of my Mom's emotional strings and it would be difficult for her to bring it up.

Bro Max asked me to put all those stories into a book-writing. I'll write about it.....

Character Day

Brayden 7Y4M13D

Bevlynn 3Y1M7D

Brayden school was having Character Dress Up Day. On the morning before school, he was choosing his clothes. As usual, there is not a lot available in the closet and we end-up with a Pokemon T-shirt with shorts and a cap. He declared himself as a Pokemon trainer.

On the way to school, other children were not dressed-up and Hubs was asking him, did he get the date right? He stunned for a moment; again with his non-confident look and trying to look around for a source of confirmation. Good thing another boy came with a all-bandaged body, looking somewhat like a patient discharged from a hospital or probably a Mummy. Not too sure which one was it. Brayden was brimming with joy, because he did not mistaken the date.

In his class, there was a boy dressed up as Charmander and his tailed would lit up with fake fire. He teamed up with the boy, he would act as though he'd caught a pokemon.

We had a little dip in the Lake Garden Clusia Cove. This time, the National Day is near and the jets are flying overhead several times.

It was a busy time at work. There are more changes and more tasks to complete. Not enough hours in a day. Getting tired~~
