This week Hub celebrated his birthday. I wanted to give him a surprise.

We met at the mrt station. He looked charming in his white top and casual jeans.

He asked, "Why are we not taking the cab there directly?"

"It's not very near", I replied.

"Isn't it near the Mandai zoo?" he questioned. 

I looked at him, "You knew the place already?" 

Hub said with a straight face and slight grin, "No, there's not many good restaurants which are near Kranji mrt." Trying to justify his question. 

He seemed to know where we were heading (He could easily see it from my email reservation if he wanted to.)

We reached Kranji mrt and took a cab there; Yes to Mandai entrance. 

As we entered, there stood a waterfall and behind it was a cave path. The path was dimly lit. This visual combined with the sound of water flowing and smell of greeneries made the walk a romantic one.

We then arrived at the Cavern Restaurant. The first "cave-inspired" restaurant in Singapore. We were ushered by the waitress in safari uniform to our seats. The rock formation, shadow linings, random coloured lightings illuminating the ceiling; these were unique and cool. The food and drinks were also appealing and mouth-watering. We were lastly served with a tiramisu cake for his birthday - a little surprise arranged by the restaurant. 

Inside the cave, it felt like time passed without knowing. When we went in, there was still daylight. When we came out, it turned night dark, with some spotlights on the sculptures and trees. It does bring the slow night vibe, there was hardly anyone around. We slowly make our walk to Bird of Paradise for ice-cream. Suddenly something fast flew by in front of us, a BAT! It clumsily flew, trying to get out of the walkway... 

We arrived at Bird of Paradise, the staff were seen cleaning up the place. We asked her if it's closed. "No, we are closing in 6 minutes. You can still order". We didn't check the closing time, good thing we managed to catch the right timing! We had our favourite white chrysanthemum and CNY special roasted sesame.  

We sat there, just the two of us at the entire place - Chatting away until they switched off the lightings... The night breeze was light and relaxing. 

I was worried it was going to be difficult to catch a cab at that late hour. When we went to the taxi stand, there was already one taxi waiting. The whole night was so smooth; one good thing happened after another.
